Buoyancy
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000492
The upward force exerted by a fluid that opposes the weight of an immersed object. In well completions, buoyancy affects the effective weight of tubulars and tools run into the wellbore, reducing the load on surface equipment. It is calculated based on the density of the fluid and the volume of the displaced object.
