Cable-tool drilling

A drilling method that uses a heavy string of tools repeatedly lifted and dropped into the wellbore to crush and break rock. The pulverized rock is then removed by bailing. This older technique is slower than rotary drilling and is now primarily used for shallow wells or specific geological conditions.
