Carrier fluid
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004257
A fluid that transports solid particles, such as proppant in hydraulic fracturing or gravel in gravel packing, down the wellbore and into the target interval. The fluid suspends the solids while pumping and releases them at the placement point. Common carrier fluids include brines, gelled water, oil and foam, with polymers or surfactants added to control viscosity and friction.
