Cavitation
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000601
The formation of vapor bubbles within a liquid due to a rapid drop in pressure, often caused by the passage of a seismic wave or the operation of a pump. In marine seismic, cavitation can occur around hydrophones or seismic sources, generating noise that degrades data quality. It can also cause damage to equipment over time.
