Condensate

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000800

A low-density liquid hydrocarbon mixture, mainly pentanes and heavier, that exists as vapor in a gas reservoir and condenses to liquid as pressure and temperature fall during production, a process called retrograde condensation when it happens in the reservoir. Its API gravity usually exceeds 50 degrees and its color runs from clear to light brown, much paler than crude oil. It differs from natural gas liquids such as ethane, propane and butane, which are separated from gas in processing plants.
