Detonate
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001038
To initiate a rapid, self-sustaining chemical reaction in an explosive material that propagates at supersonic speeds, creating a shock wave. In perforating, this action causes the shaped charges to fire, creating holes in the casing and formation. Detonation is distinct from deflagration, which is a slower, subsonic combustion.
