Electromagnetic heating
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001281
A method of heating reservoir fluids by applying electromagnetic energy, typically radio frequency or microwave radiation, to reduce oil viscosity and improve its mobility. This technique is being explored for enhanced oil recovery in heavy oil and oil sands reservoirs. The electromagnetic waves generate heat directly within the formation, rather than relying on conductive heat transfer.
