Foamy oil
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001526
A metastable dispersion of small gas bubbles in heavy oil, formed when dissolved gas leaves solution as reservoir pressure falls but stays trapped in the oil instead of merging into a free gas phase. The trapped bubbles expand the oil and sustain pressure drive toward the well. This is why primary recovery in many cold heavy oil fields is unusually high, and how stable the foam is depends on the oil composition and the gas.
