Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, an analytical technique that uses infrared light to identify and quantify organic and inorganic compounds in a sample. It measures the absorption of infrared radiation at different wavelengths, which corresponds to the vibrational modes of molecular bonds. This method is used in formation evaluation to characterize reservoir fluids, identify minerals in core samples, and analyze drilling mud components.
