Absorption band

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000014

A range of frequencies within the electromagnetic spectrum where a substance absorbs radiation more strongly than at other frequencies. This occurs due to the excitation of molecular or atomic energy states. In remote sensing for oil and gas, absorption bands can be used to identify specific minerals or hydrocarbon indicators on the Earth's surface.
