Absorption oil
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000015
A lean liquid hydrocarbon used in an absorption process to remove heavier hydrocarbon components from a natural gas stream. The raw gas is contacted with the oil in a tall column, where heavier components like propane and butane dissolve into the oil, which is then sent to a still for separation. The absorption oil is typically a stable, non-volatile fraction with a boiling range between that of kerosine and gas oil.
