Gauge pressure

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001652

A pressure measurement relative to the local atmospheric pressure, representing the difference between the absolute pressure and the ambient air pressure. It is the most common pressure reading for wellhead, tubing, and casing pressures because it indicates the stress on the equipment. A reading of zero gauge pressure (0 psig) means the pressure inside the system is equal to the surrounding atmospheric pressure.
