Gelled mud

A drilling fluid that has developed a semi-solid, jelly-like consistency due to its thixotropic properties when left static. This state allows the mud to suspend drill cuttings and weighting materials when circulation is stopped. The degree of gelling is indicated by its gel strength, measured in pounds per 100 square feet.
