Gypsum
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001777
A soft sulfate mineral composed of hydrous calcium sulfate (CaSO4·2H2O), often found in evaporite deposits. It forms when saline water evaporates, leaving behind a sequence of minerals. In drilling operations, gypsum can cause problems by reacting with drilling muds, leading to flocculation or increased viscosity.
