Halo effect
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001783
A spurious amplitude anomaly that appears around a salt dome or other high-velocity structure on a seismic image. This artifact arises from the ray path bending and focusing effects caused by the velocity contrast between the salt and surrounding sediments. It can obscure the true reflection character of the sediments adjacent to the salt body.
