Pushdown
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003008
An apparent downward displacement of seismic reflection events on a time section, caused by an overlying low-velocity anomaly. This effect makes deeper horizons appear deeper than their true depth. Pushdown is a velocity artifact that requires careful correction during seismic processing and interpretation to avoid misinterpreting subsurface structures.
