Downward continuation

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001160

A mathematical process used in potential field geophysics to estimate the gravity or magnetic field at a level below the original measurement surface. This technique enhances the resolution of shallow anomalies by effectively moving the observation plane closer to the causative bodies. Downward continuation is sensitive to noise and requires careful application to avoid amplifying artifacts.
