Sideswipe
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003399
A type of seismic noise or artifact that appears on a seismic section, originating from reflections off structures located outside the plane of the seismic line. This occurs when dipping reflectors or diffractors are present adjacent to the survey line. Sideswipe can obscure true subsurface features and requires careful identification and removal during seismic processing.
