Side-scan sonar
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003398
A sonar system used for mapping the seafloor by emitting acoustic pulses sideways from a towed vehicle or hull-mounted transducer. It creates an image of the seabed topography and features by measuring the intensity of the backscattered sound.
