Inversion
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002030
A geological process where a basin or rift structure that previously underwent extension is later subjected to compression, causing uplift and the reversal of normal fault movements. This can lead to the formation of anticlines and other structural traps for hydrocarbons. Inversion tectonics are common in areas with changing stress regimes.
