Occam's inversion
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002582
A geophysical inversion technique that seeks the simplest model (in terms of roughness or complexity) that adequately fits the observed data within a specified tolerance. This method avoids overfitting the data by penalizing overly complex models. Occam's inversion is widely used in electromagnetic, gravity, and seismic tomography to produce smooth and geologically plausible subsurface models.
