Make-up water

Water added to a drilling fluid system to compensate for losses due to evaporation, filtration, or removal of drilled solids. This water is used to maintain the desired volume and properties of the mud. The quality of make-up water, including its hardness and salinity, significantly impacts the performance of the drilling fluid.
