Mud return line
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002458
A large-diameter pipe that carries drilling fluid from the bell nipple, located below the rig floor, to the shale shakers and the rest of the solids control equipment. This gravity-fed conduit is the primary outlet for mud and cuttings returning from the wellbore annulus. The flowline sensor, which measures the rate of fluid returning from the well, is installed on this line to detect kicks or lost circulation.
