Replacement velocity

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003109

A constant velocity used in seismic data processing to replace the actual variable velocities of the near-surface layers. This correction removes the effects of irregular topography and weathered zones, allowing for more accurate calculation of travel times to deeper reflectors. It is applied to seismic traces to shift them to a common datum plane.
