Seat

The stationary component within a valve or pump against which a movable element, such as a plug or disc, seals to stop or regulate fluid flow. It provides a sealing surface that prevents leakage when the valve is closed. The integrity of the seat material and its contact with the sealing element directly affects the valve's shut-off capability.
