Seep

A natural outflow of hydrocarbons, either oil or gas, from the subsurface to the Earth's surface. Seeps indicate the presence of an active petroleum system at depth and can be found on land or beneath the ocean. Historically, oil seeps were among the first indicators used to locate potential hydrocarbon reservoirs.
