Spurt loss
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003558
The initial, rapid loss of drilling fluid filtrate into a permeable formation before a filter cake has fully formed. This occurs when the drilling fluid first contacts the rock, and the rate of fluid loss is high due to the absence of a protective barrier. It is measured in milliliters during a standard filter press test.
