Synthetic-base mud
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003741
A drilling fluid in which the continuous phase is a synthetic oil, such as an olefin or ester, rather than a petroleum-based oil. These muds are formulated to offer performance advantages over water-based muds, especially in challenging drilling environments. They are often chosen for their lower toxicity and biodegradability compared to oil-based muds.
