Zero phase
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004197
A characteristic of a seismic wavelet where its energy is symmetrically distributed around a central peak, with no phase shift. This means the peak of the wavelet corresponds directly to a geological interface. Zero-phase wavelets are often preferred in seismic interpretation because they provide a clearer representation of subsurface reflectors.
Describing a seismic wavelet that has a symmetrical waveform with its maximum amplitude occurring at the time corresponding to the reflector. This property implies that all frequency components of the wavelet arrive at the same time. Zero-phase wavelets are typically generated through deconvolution processes applied to raw seismic data.
