Big area additive manufacturing
Term · Additive manufacturing and 3D printing · MLC-T-ADM-000031
A large-format material extrusion process, abbreviated BAAM, developed by Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Cincinnati Incorporated for printing very large polymer parts quickly. A single-screw extruder melts thermoplastic pellets, usually reinforced with chopped carbon or glass fiber, and deposits them through a wide nozzle to make molds, tooling and prototypes for the automotive, marine and aerospace industries. Build rates reach about 45 kilograms per hour on the largest machines.
