Area printing

Term · Additive manufacturing and 3D printing · MLC-T-ADM-000018

A laser powder bed fusion approach, associated with Seurat Technologies, that exposes a whole patch of the powder surface at once instead of tracing it with a scanned beam. A pulsed high-power laser is patterned by a light valve so only the region to be melted receives energy, and the patch is stepped across the layer until it is complete. The contrast is with conventional laser powder bed fusion, which melts one small spot at a time.
