Light-directed electrophoretic deposition
Term · Additive manufacturing and 3D printing · MLC-T-ADM-000203
An experimental additive process in which a photoconductive electrode is illuminated with patterned light so that charged particles in a colloidal suspension deposit by electrophoresis only on the lit regions. The electric field drives the particles toward the electrode, and the light controls where the electrode conducts, so layers of different particle materials can be built in a chosen pattern. It was developed at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and does not fit cleanly into the seven standard process categories.
