Brown part

Term · Additive manufacturing and 3D printing · MLC-T-ADM-000046

An intermediate object produced during certain powder-based additive manufacturing processes, such as binder jetting, after the binder removal stage but before final sintering. This object consists of metal or ceramic powder particles held together by weak inter-particle forces, making it extremely fragile and porous. The brown part is smaller than the initial printed 'green part' due to binder removal and will shrink further during the subsequent high-temperature sintering step that densifies the material.
