STEP process

Term · Additive manufacturing and 3D printing · MLC-T-ADM-000365

The use of a data file conforming to the Standard for the Exchange of Product model data (STEP) to transfer 3D model information between computer-aided design, manufacturing, and analysis systems. Unlike mesh-based formats such as STL, a STEP file represents geometry with mathematical precision using boundary representation (B-rep). This format, defined by ISO 10303, preserves detailed product manufacturing information, including topology, color, and material properties, making it suitable for high-fidelity additive manufacturing workflows.
