Abzyme

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000089

An antibody that possesses catalytic activity, functioning as an enzyme. These catalytic antibodies are typically generated by immunizing an animal with a hapten that resembles the transition state of a chemical reaction. Abzymes can catalyze a variety of reactions, including hydrolysis and redox reactions, and have potential applications in medicine and biotechnology.
