Alkylating agent
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000403
A chemical compound that transfers an alkyl group to another molecule, often a biological macromolecule like DNA or protein. These agents can form covalent bonds with nucleophilic sites on these molecules, leading to structural and functional changes. Many alkylating agents are used in chemotherapy due to their ability to damage DNA and inhibit cell proliferation.
