Alternating current

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000455

An electric current that periodically reverses its direction, in contrast to direct current which flows in only one direction. The magnitude of an alternating current also varies continuously with time, typically following a sinusoidal waveform. In electroanalytical chemistry, alternating currents are employed in techniques like voltammetry to study electrode processes.
