Anadromy

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000534

A migratory life history strategy in which fish spend the majority of their adult lives in marine environments but return to freshwater to reproduce. This pattern of migration is driven by reproductive needs, often involving long journeys against currents. It contrasts with catadromy, where fish migrate from freshwater to saltwater to spawn.
