Catadromy
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001697
A migratory pattern exhibited by certain fish species where adults live in freshwater and migrate to saltwater to breed. After spawning in the marine environment, the adult fish typically perish, and their offspring then migrate back to freshwater to mature. This is a distinct life cycle strategy compared to anadromy.
