Angle of emission

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000596

The angle between the direction of an emitted particle or photon and the normal to the surface from which it is emitted. This parameter is controlled in surface-sensitive analytical techniques to vary the depth of information being probed. In X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), smaller emission angles relative to the surface plane increase the surface sensitivity of the measurement.
