Take-off angle
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013639
The angle at which a particle leaves a sample surface, measured from the surface plane, and so complementary to the emission angle, which is measured from the surface normal. In angle-resolved XPS, a small take-off angle means near-grazing emission, a shorter path through the solid and so greater surface sensitivity. The information depth is roughly proportional to the sine of the take-off angle.
