Asymmetry parameter
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000869
The factor β, used in X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, that characterizes how the intensity of photoelectrons ejected from isolated atoms depends on the angle between the electron direction and the incident X-ray direction. It is defined within the dipole approximation, and at the magic angle the angular factor equals 1 whatever the value of β. For solids the gas-phase relation is modified by elastic scattering.
