Apparent molar mass

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000743

A molar mass worked out directly from measurements, with no allowance for effects that distort the result, such as finite polymer concentration, association of chains, preferential sorption or compositional heterogeneity. A value read from a size-exclusion chromatograph calibrated with standards of a different polymer is an example. It is therefore not the true molar mass of the sample.
