Area
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012883
The geometric or projected area of an electrode surface in contact with the solution, taken without regard to surface roughness or porosity. It is the quantity A in equations such as the Randles-Sevcik expression for the peak current in cyclic voltammetry, where the current is proportional to it. The real, electrochemically active area of a rough electrode is larger than this value.
