Arteriosclerosis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000800
A group of diseases characterized by the thickening, hardening, and loss of elasticity of the walls of arteries. This process restricts blood flow to organs and tissues and can lead to serious cardiovascular problems. While often used interchangeably with atherosclerosis, arteriosclerosis is a broader term; atherosclerosis is a specific type where the hardening is caused by the buildup of fatty plaques within the artery wall.
