Atherosclerosis

A chronic inflammatory disease characterized by the buildup of plaque, composed of cholesterol, fats, and other substances, within the walls of arteries. This accumulation hardens and narrows the arteries, restricting blood flow and increasing the risk of heart attack, stroke, and peripheral artery disease. It is a major form of arteriosclerosis.
