Autacoid

A biological factor that acts like a local hormone, produced by one type of cell and affecting other cells in the same tissue or organ. These substances have a short half-life and typically exert their effects near their site of synthesis. Examples include histamine, prostaglandins, and bradykinin, which mediate inflammation and other physiological responses.
