Biomarker of susceptibility

A measurable indicator that reflects an individual's inherent or acquired predisposition to develop an adverse health effect when exposed to a specific environmental agent. These markers identify individuals or populations at increased risk. Genetic polymorphisms that alter metabolic enzyme activity are common examples of such biomarkers.
