Biomarker of exposure

A measurable substance in an organism that indicates contact with an environmental agent. This can be the parent compound, its metabolite, or a reaction product in biological fluids or tissues. Biomarkers of exposure provide an integrated measure of the absorbed dose from all routes of exposure.
