Bootstrap resampling

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001436

A statistical method for estimating the sampling distribution of an estimator, or the accuracy of a model statistic, by repeatedly resampling with replacement from the observed data and recomputing the statistic each time. It yields standard errors, confidence intervals and hypothesis tests for complex statistics that lack analytical formulas, but it cannot supply information the original sample lacks, so very small samples remain unreliable.
